my rant!
2013. március 14., csütörtök 23:28I've been offshore for two weeks and just got home, didn't really play much at all when I was out there as I didn't have the motivation or desire to play when I'm tired after work. I've played a little bit since I got home though, action has been beyond terrible. Atm the QUE list for 60 dollar games SUCKS, I've been 20th in waiting list to get a lobby in the 60s. It makes me wonder if I made a mistake changing games. I'm always looking for regs with a lousy profit in the lobby when I'm waiting to reg a lobby, and I find it both amusing and frustrating that people with 2k profit gets to opensit lobbies. I know I haven't been around for a long time in these games, but i still consider myself intelligent, smart enough to beat most of the regs that wants to play me, that I don't mind the action, plus my roll is big enough to handle a downswing anyways. I think i got enough experience those years I've played that I should be an exception even though my avg. stake is only $30. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to be cocky or anything like that, I know there are a decent amount of $60 grinders that I personally don't want to play.
Another thing that also frustrates me, are cultural differences between countries. For me who live in a rich western country, probably the richest country when it comes to GDP (gross domestic product). In theory this means how much a country makes divided on all their inhabitants (I think this is what it means, might be wrong). In Norway, I believe average hourly is around $30 bucks an hour. Not really sure about this, but should be somewhat close anyways. In eastern Europe they come to Norway to work for $15-$20 an hour. If they work here for 5 years they go back to their own countries, they have paid down their houses and live like kings. I think these players really destroys the game, but at the same time I understand them for sure. If the best job they can get in their own countries pays 5 bucks an hour, it makes total sense to relocate to Norway or other western countries, or in my case playing poker. Just getting supernova and playing the midstakes, it pays about $15-$20 an hour just playing breakeven. It obv makes total sense to play poker, you don't even have to be good to make decent money in countries like that. I need to figure out my options and why. I can bumhunt fish in the 60s and 100s and mix in 18/180 games for sideaction when I play. I can strictly play only headsup and play all unknown regs and bumhunt fish at the same time. As long as i got an edge vs someone, even though edge is going to be somewhat small, my hourly is still going to be better compared to waiting around to bumhunt fish. Last option seem like the best option. I can't really complain about hourly whatsoever as I make way more than avg. for my country anyways. But it makes me think about the future of poker, if i ever drop down to $20 bucks an hour I will stop playing for sure. It makes me wonder if poker becomes unbeatable in the future. It will never get unbeatable for the best players, as they will survive regardless. I'm not sure I have the desire to be one of them forever though. Glad I have education and didn't drop out to play poker.
I'm going to Dublin on tuesday to play a live event, so in the upcoming days i will mostly be focusing on 180s and mtts to tune my game for the event. There are pretty huge difference between headsup and normal MTTs. Can't really be valuebetting the same way in MTTs as you can in headsup. Preflop ranges also plays out different.
